I’m using this in my cat’s homemade food and he seems to dig it. I used to use bones and grind them but for various reasons I’ve switched to boneless chicken thighs and use this as a bone substitute. It’s not as ideal in terms of wholesome nutrients but is said to be easier on the kidneys due to lower phosphorus loads. Plus my cat doesn’t really like to work at his dinner so he would often leave the bony bits behind and just slurp up the soup around it.
This is very finely ground and powdery yet gritty. I thought my cat might object to the grit but he has no issues with it.
I use 13-14 grams per 3 pounds of thigh so I reckon this canister should last a little over a year and It comes out to about a dollar for each batch of cat food. I will probably start saving my own egg shells and making this myself eventually but this is very convenient in the meantime.
